Thomson announced more than €20 million in recent orders for its Grass Valley server-based digital news production (DNP) technology and new K2 Media Client and Media Server systems

News departments and playout facilities making the transition with Grass Valley’s multi-format equipment include two major independent groups in the United States – Belo Broadcasting and Tribune; BBC Wales, in the United Kingdom; SRG, in Switzerland; TV Cultura, in Brazil; WIN Television, in Australia; and, the Global Television, in Canada.

BBC Wales
This dual-language National news channel has purchased a solution that includes a full complement of Grass Valley DNP equipment, including all Grass Valley DNP products and the new K2 server system.

Tribune and Belo Broadcasting
These independent station groups in the US have purchased a number of K2 systems and DNP products to enhance their news operations’ handling and distribution of late-breaking news and commercial content.

SRG
While the installation has already begun, Switzerland’s major broadcaster is set to go on-air with a massive Grass Valley DNP system in July. It includes 20 channels--including three for playout—three Ingest stations, five NewsEdit workstations and 36 NewsBrowse clients.

TV Cultura
This Brazilian broadcaster recently purchased a full Digital News Production system, which includes several Grass Valley NewsEdit systems and the K2 system.

WIN Television
Australia’s largest regional television broadcaster has placed a multi-million dollar order with Grass Valley for its DNP solution. This includes a full complement of products for ingest, editing, central storage, browse and playout. The broadcaster has also ordered numerous K2 systems, which will provide a central and distributed storage architecture in SD and HD formats for all news operations.

Global Television (Canada)
One of Canada’s largest broadcasters has committed to Grass Valley DNP equipment and systems for a major upgrade of its news production facilities in Toronto and Vancouver. The order includes Grass Valley K2 systems and DNP products all running on a Grass Valley Ignite integrated news production solution. With these in place, the network can easily upgrade to HD when it’s ready. The new system also includes a Grass Valley Trinix router and Grass Valley signal-conversion modules.

Designed for HD bandwidths, the K2 system is available in two standard forms: an SD-only system that supports four bi-directional channels at up to 50 Mb/s, and a two-channel version that can be configured for HD and SD and has the option of adding two more input or output channels.
